The Dream Healer Archival Video

The Dream Healer is a Vancouver-written opera based on the life of Dr. Carl Jung. The opera premièred at the Chan Centre in March 2008, and featured John Avey, Roelof Oostwoud, and Order of Canada recipient Judith Forst.

Storybubble Pictures was on hand to create an archival recording of this historic première, working in conjunction with the CBC. Opera is about the music and drama, not exotic camerawork, so our goal was to remain true to the original production — not dazzle the audience with fancy special effects.

With a cast of over 50 performers, capturing the intensity of the individual actors without losing the wide scope of the production was a challenge. A total of six different angles were used to gather as much coverage as possible. The finished recording was turned into an archival-quality DVD, memorializing the première for the next generation of opera-goers.
